Injury-hit Everton FC look to avoid an unlucky 13 at Tottenham Hotspur

EVERTON manager David Moyes is hoping that his crippling injury list does not reach unlucky 13 for tonight’s Carling Cup trip to Tottenham.

The Scot was without 11 senior players for Sunday’s 3-2 defeat at Bolton Wanderers but was forced to withdraw versatile Dutch international John Heitinga at the Reebok Stadium.

The Goodison Park outfit are hopeful that former Ajax and Atletico Madrid man Heitinga will keep his place for the fifth round tie at White Hart Lane as his enforced substitution was just down to cramp.

Everton are also keeping their fingers crossed over captain Tim Cahill – wearing the armband against the Trotters because previous skippers Phil Neville, Joseph Yobo and Leon Osman have all succumbed to injury – will also be okay after the Australian international was stamped upon by opponent Zat Knight.

If Everton were without the duo it could take their casualty list up to 13 ensuring that Moyes’ injury worries would reached crisis point with more players out than are available.

The embarrassment of riches currently sidelined include Mikel Arteta (ruptured cruciate ligament), Phil Jagielka (ruptured anterior cruciate ligament), Victor Anichebe (knee), Osman (foot), Steven Pienaar (knee), James Vaughan (knee), Yobo (head), Neville (posterior ligament), Ayegbeni Yakubu (bruised heel), Leighton Baines (calf) and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov (groin strain).
