But Goodison team-mate Jack Rodwell has pulled out of the squad after playing every minute of Everton’s recent run of seven games in 23 days.

Another Everton player to withdraw from international duty is Tim Howard.

The United States goalkeeper has damaged fibres on the underside of his foot and the decision was made to pull him from the matches in Slovakia on Saturday and Denmark the following Wednesday.

“I have spoken to the US medical team and they are perfectly happy with the situation,” said Everton’s head physio Mick Rathbone. “We’ll work with Tim here and monitor the injury closely.”

Everton manager Moyes has welcomed the international break that gives many of his injured players a chance to regain fitness, with Phil Neville (knee), Steven Pienaar (knee) and Leon Osman (foot) all aiming to return for the trip to Old Trafford.

“The games have been coming thick and fast but that's the way we want it,” said Moyes.

“The break will give some of the players a chance to get closer to fitness.”
