Tim Cahill insists Everton FC can turn season around when injuries begin to clear up

Everton's Tim Cahill and team celebrate

TIM CAHILL believes Everton still have the quality to turn a difficult season into a success once their injury problems start to clear.

The Goodison outfit entered the international break on the back of a 2-1 win at West Ham United, their first victory in eight games.

During the run, David Moyes’s side have slipped out of the Carling Cup and seen their hopes of qualification for the knockout stages of the Europa League suffer a setback with back-to-back defeats against Benfica.

But the triumph at Upton Park has lifted morale at Goodison, which could receive a further boost with the return of a trio of injured players in time for Saturday’s visit to Manchester United.

Phil Neville, Steven Pienaar and Leon Osman are all hopeful of being available for the Old Trafford encounter to give Moyes some welcome selection options.

And Cahill, who played his eighth game in four weeks in Australia’s 2-1 Asia Cup qualifying win in Oman on Saturday, believes the returnees can help transform the campaign.

“The lads that have been in the team have been fantastic and we need that bit of extra help,” said the Australian.

“It’s about how we kick on and get more injured players back to share the workload.

“We have lost out way a bit in the last few weeks, but now it’s all about getting our heads down and just working.

“I think the hunger’s there. Being in the FA Cup final last year and finishing fifth in the league, we have to build on that. We definitely are good enough – it’s whether or not we can make it happen.

“We’re at the stage where we’ve got to kick on.”
