Mark Lawrenson: Everton FC need to believe they are winners again

Now he needs to see a big reaction at Hull tomorrow night.

Everton are closer to these bottom sides than they are to the top four and that’s something they need to put right.

And I think the only way to do it is to really go out and get at them.

I thought they were pretty fortunate to get a draw against West Ham on Saturday and given the problems a team below them in the table presented, I think this should be the game where Everton really start to show they have that belief and confidence again. Moyes is right to suggest that while there are many players missing, those who are on the field should be good enough to overcome the adversity.

And they certainly should be good enough to get three points – and in the process hopefully kick-start their season – on Humberside tomorrow night.

There were times at Old Trafford when Everton looked like they were almost saving themselves for a midweek game they thought might be a more realistic source of three points.

Now it’s time to prove that was a worthwhile approach.
