Pauly2:
WHAT a disgrace! Kirkby is dying, look at the industrial estate its a ghost town . . . I’m totally shocked that it’s been turned down. It’s their loss, I hope they’re happy.
joyofjoy:
IT WOULD become a place where people were trapped by not being able to afford to move. The development would have destroyed the community.
BDF32:
AS SOMEONE who moved to Kirkby for a better life away from football stadia, this is the best decision.
jarty:
ANYBODY who knows the full facts will tell you this project was doomed from the start.
The ill-researched transport plan was the final straw, who would go to shops or a sports stadium that was inaccessible due to inadequate transport links.
themeister:
OVERALL, I’m very pleased it’s been rejected and now we need a town centre that fits people of Kirkby, not all the surrounding areas. Why don't you vent your wrath at the people who have put EFC in debt and if you slide down the table it’s called natural evolution. You'll get over it but Kirkby would never have recovered.
Hardfacts:
I AM totally shocked, what a horrendous decision, the only thing worse is the short-sighted cretins who see this as a victory. I have to come to Kirby to see relatives. What a dump, its town centre needs knocking down – it’s had its time.
miketheblue:
THIS is good news for the club which will stop us becoming the next MK Dons – a club that is disconnected from the community that created it. The club (and Liverpool FC) should now try to invest more in the Walton/Everton area, officially one of the poorest places in Britain.
shaz37:
AS USUAL, the people of Kirkby who don’t like anything to change have got their way. I have three children and Destination Kirkby was their future. Kirkby will go down hill even more now, the shops will have a field day bumping their prices sky high. My kids will probably have no future in Kirkby now – no jobs, no decent town centre to speak of.
14all:
HERE’S to another 30 years of decline another pie shop, another pound shop, charity shop and anything cheap they want to put here. Well done to the minority – I hope your kids enjoy a better life than we have now.
McBlue:
IF GOODISON Park had been allowed to die, part of me would have died with it. All true Blues should rejoice.
duvallonline:
WILL, and should this open the shared stadium debate, I would personally like to see a study carried out by both clubs into the viability of a joint stadium built in Speke. Loads of land, great transport links still in Liverpool neutral ground for both clubs.
captaintruth:
ONCE again, a massive own goal by the people of Kirkby, the town centre is a shambles and cannot be fixed without demolition and starting from scratch.
D2009:
RIGHT decision but for the wrong reasons. More should have been said in the final decision about the stadium/Tesco bid on its impact on local Kirkby residents.
