Leighton Baines, Everton FC
LEIGHTON BAINES believes Everton’s point at Chelsea is the latest sign the shoots of recovery are beginning to show in their season.
Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge against the Premier League leaders leaves David Moyes’ men unbeaten in their last three games with Baines now targeting a positive run of results through the Christmas and New Year period.
Three set-pieces were the undoing of Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea side and Everton left-back Baines says quality deliveries into the opposition area are imperative in the top flight.
Although delighted with the point, Baines was keen not to get carried away with the result.
Baines said: “A lot of sides would be happy to come away from here with a point given the form Chelsea have been in and we are not any different.
“It has been well talked about the injuries we have had to face, there’s no hiding from it and that we have struggled to cope at times. But we feel we have turned a corner in the last few games and have taken confidence from this.
“If this game had come four games earlier, we would possibly not have got the point. Four games ago we were not as strong as we are now. Something has happened, maybe a couple of performances and results have given us a lift and maybe we are getting back to where we were.
"I don’t think I am hitting top form yet and there is plenty more still to come from myself and from the team. We are not in our stride at the moment, confidence is starting to come back and we are starting to improve individually and collectively.
