DAVID MOYES believes wasteful Everton have only themselves to blame after failing to end their barren home run – as he revealed his concerns over their lowly league position.
But the Goodison manager also pointed the finger at the match officials after his team were held to a 1-1 draw by Birmingham City yesterday.
Diniyar Bilyaletdinov’s fifth-minute opener was cancelled out by Sebastian Larsson midway through the first half to extend Everton’s poor run of Premier League form to just one win in 11.
Moyes’s side have now not won any of their last eight home games since beating Blackburn Rovers three months ago.
They were denied a second goal shortly after going ahead when Louis Saha was incorrectly flagged offside, and may have been awarded a penalty late on after Stephen Carr appeared to handle a ball intended for Saha’s head.
But Moyes chose to concentrate on his team’s inability to turn their dominance into goals.
“I’m frustrated because we had opportunities in a game which I thought we were in control of, and should have won,” said the Goodison manager. “We should have won the game and we’ve only got ourselves to blame. I didn’t think the disallowed goal would be a turning point at the time, because I thought we were dominant in the game and playing so well.
“I thought we would go on and score other goals. I thought our play was fine, but in the final third we were wasteful – with our final pass and our finishing.
“It did prove to be a turning point, but I didn’t think so at the time.”
Of the incidents involving Saha, Moyes added: “I’ve seen them again, yes. Saha’s goal wasn’t offside and it’s a penalty kick as well, Stephen Carr punches it off his head, the referee doesn’t get it. But what am I going to do now? I can’t do anything about it after the game.
