“They appoint who they think are the best officials in the country to referee the game so we’ve got to trust them that they are the best ones. But at the moment there’s one or two mistakes getting made.”
With Wigan Athletic entertaining fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers this evening, Everton will go into Christmas in 16th place and could drop to within a point of the relegation zone should Bolton earn at least a point at the DW Stadium.
And Moyes said: “I’m concerned because we’re in the wrong part of the league. But I’ve been concerned for a month or two.
“I did say a month ago that if we’re not careful we could end up at the wrong end of the table. And we are at the wrong end of the table. But I don’t think we are doing an awful lot wrong.
“It is a different challenge for the players now. They have to realise that’s the position we’re in just now.
“There’s different skills required from when we were fifth or sixth from the top.”
Moyes also reiterated his warning that Evertoncannot rely on the return of their injured stars
While both Leon Osman and James Vaughan were back in league action yesterday after lengthy spells on the sidelines, the likes of Mikel Arteta, Phil Jagielka, Phil Neville, Sylvain Distin and Joseph Yobo remain out.
And Moyes said: “The injuries might not be back, so if the injuries don’t come back in time then you have to win your games now. You can’t be waiting on other people coming to help. That’s the message I’ve been trying to put out.”
Larsson’s goal was the only shot Birmingham managed on target yesterday, but was enough to extend their unbeaten run to nine games and move the Midlanders up to seventh in the table.
“You make your own luck and Birmingham have earned theirs,” said Moyes. “They were really resilient today. They are on a good run, but got up the pitch once today and got a goal.
“For me they earned that by working really hard to stay in the game. We’ve just not been quite good enough to break them down.
“If you don’t get that second goal then you can’t kill anybody off. It meant Birmingham were never out of the game and they are on a great run. They are the form team in the Premier League at present, but I don’t think anybody for a minute would say that we didn’t deserve to win today.” Everton will today check on the fitness of Tim Cahill, who finished the game complaining of a groin problem.
