Landon Donovan 300
LANDON DONOVAN believes his game is ready-made for the Premier League – and aims to use his time at Everton to help bring down England in the World Cup.
The United States international forward arrived on Merseyside this week to begin his 10-week loan spell from MLS outfit LA Galaxy.
Donovan’s arrival is timely given the striker crisis to have struck Goodison, with Louis Saha injured, Yakubu on African Cup of Nations duty and Jo suspended after going AWOL over Christmas.
And the 27-year-old, who is hopefully of going straight into the squad for Saturday’s visit to Arsenal, is convinced it will not take long for him to acclimatise to life in the top flight.
“All of us in America, like most countries around the world, follow the Premier League and it’s exciting to be part of it and to get to play in some games hopefully,” said Donovan. “Watching on Saturday you could tell it was a lot faster here which I enjoy. I will have to get used to the style here but me and Tim have had some discussions about it and what to expect and I think I will be prepared.
“Will the English game suit me? Very much so. I like a fast-paced game, I like to take advantages and chances quickly and I think that will suit me well. Of course, any player wants to play against Arsenal at the Emirates. It will be a lot of fun if I make the trip but if not I will look forward to hopefully Manchester City here.”
Donovan spent a similar spell on loan last year at Bayern Munich and went on to play a part in the United States’ Confederations Cup campaign, scoring in the 3-2 final defeat to Brazil.
