Leighton Baines 300
LEIGHTON BAINES is calling for Everton to continue with their improved form when they head to The Emirates this weekend.
After a disappointing start to the season, the Goodison Park outfit are currently on a four game unbeaten run that has seen them pull away from the relegation zone.
Following last weekend’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Carlisle, Everton return to Premier League action against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon but face a rejuvenated Gunners team.
Arsene Wenger will see maximum points against Everton as imperative to keep up the pressure at the top of the table but Baines is confident the visitors can dent those ambitions.
“We all know that Arsenal are a very good side, and at The Emirates especially,” said the defender.
“But we also know that we’re slowly getting there ourselves and we need to keep it up.
“We didn’t have the best of games against Carlisle but in the games leading up to that we played some pretty good stuff.
“When you go to places like Arsenal they tend to let you play a little bit so we’ll go there confident and hopefully we can get a result.”
Draws against Tottenham, Chelsea, Birmingham and Sunderland, ahead of a 2-0 win over Burnley, saw Everton stop the rot of three consecutive defeats in the league.
In recent weeks David
Moyes’ side have looked a different proposition to when they were embarrassed 6-1 by Arsenal at Goodison Park on the opening day of the season.
Baines is certain there won’t be a repeat at the weekend and is confident Everton can bring something back from the capital.
