Goodison welcome has been key to my good start with Everton, says Landon Donovan

“Leighton Baines played a great ball to Tim Cahill and I knew in that situation Tim was going to win the ball.

“I’ve been getting more comfortable over the weeks knowing where to run.

“Louis Saha made a great run across to open up the space for me and from there I managed to hit the target.

“We were all disappointed after last Saturday and wanted to do better.

“As an athlete, when you’ve lost you want the next game to come as quickly as possible.

“We didn’t have a long time to worry about what happened in the Cup as we had to start looking ahead to Wednesday and I thought our reaction was great.”

Everton have crunch clashes with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United to come in February, but Donovan is looking no further ahead than tomorrow’s trip to Wigan Athletic.

He said: “A lot of people talk about the fact we’ve got big games coming up, but for me every game is huge and a big opportunity.

“We’ve got ourselves back on track and now we need to go to Wigan and try to keep moving up the table.”
