Tim Howard praises Everton FC quarterback John Heitinga

“I know the derby is on the horizon but I’m excited about Saturday. Even though we are away we feel if we can put it a good shift we can get the points.

“Our confidence is probably the highest it has been for a while. The injured guys are coming back and that gives everyone a lift.”

Howard has been delighted by the impact made by fellow USA international and close friend Landon Donovan.

The loan signing from LA Galaxy grabbed his first goal for Everton in the victory over Sunderland.

“I love this club and I was excited Landon was coming to be a part of it,” Howard said.

“It’s hard to come into a team midway through the season and pick up the system and where you fit into it. But he has settled in really quickly. He’s a top player and a very humble guy who works hard.

“He will accept criticism and put plans in place to make himself better. He’s very composed and is going to get better and better.

“He’s well on his way to doing some good things here in a blue shirt and long may it continue.”

Meanwhile, Yakubu and Joseph Yobo’s African Cup of Nations dream is over after Nigeria lost 1-0 to Ghana in yesterday’s semi-final.

Everton striker Yakubu started the game on the bench but was brought on with 20 minutes to go. Clubmate Yobo did not feature as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

The duo will return to Merseyside after tomorrow’s third and fourth place play-off.
