Everton FC latest: Steven Pienaar keen to secure contract extension

STEVEN PIENAAR has allayed fears over his Goodison future – while vowing Everton will go on the attack to keep their Europa League dream alive.

Pienaar marked his 100th appearance for the club by scoring the opening goal in their 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon in Tuesday’s round of 32 first leg. It was the South African’s sixth strike of the season and fourth in the last nine games, his best return since arriving from Borussia Dortmund three years ago.

Bayern Munich are reportedly keen to take the player back to the Bundesliga, with their hopes raised by a current impasse over negotiations between Everton and Pienaar’s representatives to extend a contract that expires in less than 18 months.

But the midfielder wants the situation resolved with a new deal soon, and said: “I feel this is my home. The supporters have always been good to me and I always give 100%.

“I definitely aim to play here for a lot longer, why not? Talk of moving is only rumours and I am definitely enjoying my football here.”

Miguel Veloso’s late penalty handed Sporting a precious away goal on Tuesday to leave Everton’s European hopes hanging precariously in the balance.

A 1-0 defeat in next Thursday’s second leg in Lisbon would be enough to eliminate Moyes’s side.

But Pienaar has warned the Portuguese side that Everton will not attempt to merely sit back and defend their slender advantage at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

“It’s unfortunate that we have to go over there with just a one-goal lead,” said the 27-year-old. “We know they have scored a goal and it will be a case of ‘game on’ when we go to their place.

“We just have to stay cool and make sure we get a goal over there and we can do it then.
