Keeping Everton in Our City (KEIOC) hope to start a new vision for Liverpool’s ‘Football Quarter’

FANS’ plans for a rebuild of Goodison Park have been put before a meeting of Everton’s minority shareholders.

Campaign group Keeping Everton in Our City (KEIOC) presented their ideas for a Football Quarter, uniting Liverpool Football Club, Everton, Liverpool City Council, the universities, and groups including the NWDA and Mersey Partnership before the meeting last night.

They suggested a “smart” stadium able to utilise down-time between matches with rock concerts, conferences, or other types of sporting events, with an attached hotel, which would bring in constant revenue.

They conceded it would still cost a lot, perhaps as much as Arsenal’s £700m Emirates Stadium, but be able to be built over a long time span as money became available, and without causing disruption to games.

Outlining the plans, KEIOC architectural consultant Trevor Skempton said: “Phasing is the key. We can buy the phases as they become available.

“If you had planning permission, you could build the hotel tomorrow.

“And you don’t need to disrupt the playing season. It can be done.

“The maximum plan, for a 60,000-seat stadium, would require 94 buildings be relocated and replaced, not sacrificed. It’s hard and needs to be done with the commitment of the community, but it can be done.”
