Everton FC latest: Home comforts can see us go abroad again, says Mikel Arteta

MIKEL ARTETA believes Everton’s home form will prove decisive in their quest for European qualification.

David Moyes’s men currently stand 10 points off sixth place and a likely Europa League berth following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

Of their 11 games remaining, five are at Goodison starting with Hull City on Sunday.

Only Arsenal and Liverpool have won a Premier League game at Everton this season with Moyes’s side having won their last five top-flight games on their own turf, the most recent of which were memorable victories against Chelsea and Manchester United.

And with Bolton Wanderers, West Ham United, Fulham and Portsmouth also due at Goodison before the end of the campaign, Arteta is convinced Everton should not give up hope of securing a return to Europe.

“We have had a lot of tough games in the last few weeks and we have a lot of games still to come,” he said. “But I think we still have a big chance.

“We are going to play teams that we would normally think we could beat, so let’s win our home games and see where that gets us.

“We have to keep banging on it. We have 11 games left, we can’t win anything now, now we just have to aim for the highest position in the table.”
