He took his goals well, but it’s his passing and the way he shows for the ball that brings the best out of the players around him. They must absolutely love it when he’s in the side.
Everything seemed to fall nicely into place on Sunday, with Landon Donovan even capping the day off by showing everyone what he had meant to do when he missed that sitter at White Hart Lane.
Hull City were the ideal opponents though, and Birmingham City at St Andrews at the weekend will surely prove a sterner test. They were impressive at Goodison earlier this season, especially in the FA Cup, and although their form has tailed off slightly they haven’t lost many at home in what’s been a great season.
Everton will need to reproduce their recent home form to get a good result then, but the incentive’s there – if win we leapfrog Alex McLeish’s men in the table and could begin to put some pressure on Liverpool and Aston Villa in the battle for Europa League qualification.
