Everton FC latest: Jack Rodwell revelling in his new-found freedom

Jack Rodwell celebrates

JACK RODWELL admits he is enjoying the freedom handed to him by Everton manager David Moyes in a new attacking midfield role.

Rodwell has been operating in a more advanced position in recent weeks after being employed for much of the campaign as a defensive midfielder.

The switch has paid immediate dividends with the teenager scoring in the wins over Manchester United and Hull City and laying on a goal for Mikel Arteta at Manchester City last Wednesday.

And the England under-21 international believes his game is improving by broadening his experience of roles in an improving Everton team.

“It’s good and I’m happy to play anywhere on the pitch for the team,” said Rodwell. “The gaffer’s given me a bit more license to get forward, which I’m enjoying at the moment.

“It’s all experience and I’ve played defensive midfield for most of the season and a couple of seasons ago, at centre-half. So it’s hard to believe that I’ve gone from defence to attacking midfield.

“I’ve been getting few goals and getting in the right positions and I’ve been working on it in training as well.”

With Mikel Arteta nursing a slight groin problem, Rodwell was restored to the starting line-up at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
