Everton FC’s Leighton Baines to discover World Cup 2010 fate today

Leighton Baines - England

The Everton man is competing with Stephen Warnock to be understudy to first-choice left-back Ashley Cole.

An injury to Warnock hampered the Aston Villa defender’s chances of appearing in either friendly, but Baines’s testing time Mexico means there is still a doubt over the place.

West Ham United’s Scott Parker, Tottenham Hotspur duo Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone and Sunderland’s Darren Bent are expected to be cut along with one of either Baines or Warnock.

Adam Johnson, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Joe Cole, Aaron Lennon, Matthew Upson and Ledley King are the other players thought to be under threat of missing out as Capello determines the players he hopes can win the World Cup.
