Everton FC's Jack Rodwell backing Fabio Capello for England

JACK RODWELL has backed Fabio Capello to keep his job as England manager – and has called for the introduction of goalline technology in football.

The Everton youngster has been mentioned among a list of potential England stars of the future in the fall out of the Three Lions’ disastrous World Cup campaign.

It took a slender 1-0 win over Slovenia for England to scrape out of Group C behind leaders USA.

As the Americans met Ghana in the last 16, England had a tougher clash against Germany in Bloemfontein on Sunday where Capello’s side were out-played and out-classed, losing 4-1 in what was England’s heaviest defeat at a World Cup finals.

Calls have been made for the Italian to stand down from his £6million a year post or, if not, for the Football Association to dismiss the former Real Madrid and AC Milan boss. While Capello has said he intends to fulfil his contract that runs until after the 2012 European Championships, the FA want two weeks to analyse the situation.

Rodwell believes Capello is the right man to take England forward, though, and would like to see him continue with the national team.

“I'm not sure his job should be under threat,” said the midfielder, who recently signed a five year deal at Goodison Park.

“He's done brilliantly throughout qualifying to get us to the World Cup.
