Steven Pienaar 300
DAVID MOYES has warned Steven Pienaar that Everton are unlikely to improve a “brilliant offer” to extend his Goodison commitment – after admitting being priced out of a move for Craig Bellamy.
Pienaar has entered the final 12 months of his current contract with talks having stalled over a new agreement that has been on the table since before the World Cup.
The South African broke his silence over the impasse this week when stating he wanted to stay at Goodison provided the offer was “right and fair”.
Moyes, though, has strongly intimated the contract offer tabled is final while once again dismissing claims from Pienaar's representatives that Everton are stalling over talks.
“Pienaar has been made a brilliant offer,” said the Goodison manager, whose side entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers today. “There has been an offer on the table for months.
“Steven is not accepting what we have offered. It's as simple as that. I don't know where it goes from there. He knows and so do his people. He has been made an offer, and for anyone to say otherwise is nonsense.”
Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich were among several clubs to be strongly linked with Pienaar during the summer, although speculation has lessened since a disappointing World Cup.
Everton have received no offers for the South African, and Moyes has reiterated his stance that he will allow Pienaar to run down the final year of his contract – unless otherwise instructed by the Goodison board.
