Seamus Coleman will fight for Everton FC place if Landon Donovan returns

YOUNG Everton defender Seamus Coleman is hoping to welcome Landon Donovan back to Goodison Park next month – but warned him not to expect to step back into his old right-wing role without a fight!

Donovan spent a successful spell at Everton last season on loan from LA Galaxy and is currently pondering whether to repeat the experience.

But since the USA international returned to the States, young Irishman Coleman has forged a growing reputation for himself in an unaccustomed raiding right flank role.

And he warned: “I’d be delighted to see Landon back and I’m not just saying that.

“He’s a good lad, and he gave the fans a lift. But I’m going to keep working hard, and if he comes good luck to him – but I’ll be fighting for the place.”

Donovan made 13 appearances for the Blues, scoring twice and making a significant impact.

Coleman added: “If he came back it might give the team a bit of an added spark again too. Landon has played in World Cups, and I can only learn from the likes of him.

“I’d be the first to welcome him back. He was very popular among the lads and was always good to me.

“He’d always speak to the younger lads and if you ask anyone at Finch Farm about him; from the canteen ladies to the cleaning lads, they’d all say how much of a nice guy he was, and even better that he was a good player as well.”
