David Moyes believes Everton FC deserved better against Manchester United

DAVID MOYES believes Everton deserved better after watching his team slip to defeat against Manchester United at the weekend.

Javier Hernandez’s 19th-minute strike was enough to consign the Goodison outfit to a third successive home loss and a fifth reverse in six games on Saturday.

In a game of few goalmouth incidents, Everton enjoyed plenty of possession but struggled to test United goalkeeper David de Gea.

But Moyes said: “We were unfortunate not to go away with a result. We kept the ball well and tried to do the right things but maybe it was just the real difference in the wide area.

“But I thought the players did a good job. We played quite well in midweek (against Chelsea in the Carling Cup) and we played well again here. We have had two of our best performances this season and not got anything.

“We didn’t play as well at Fulham as we did against Chelsea and Manchester United.

“I don’t think it would have been out of the question had we got one point at least.

“We could maybe have done better with their goal, maybe we could have cleared it.

“I thought it was the most controlled we have been against Manchester United but it doesn’t mean anything, does it? Goals mean it.

“They got their goal, they gave themselves something to protect. But, you know, we played well. I find it hard to say and I hate myself for saying it but the bit we were missing needs money to buy it. That’s the thing.”

Moyes added: “It wouldn’t have been out of the question if one had dropped for us at the end. But it didn’t really drop.

“All the efforts we had – bar the one from Jack (Rodwell) that hit the boy in the face – were quite limp. We just didn’t have any oomph behind any of them.”
