David Moyes 300
DAVID MOYES has warned Everton FC not to take for granted another trademark recovery following yet another slow start to a Premier League season.
The Goodison outfit have underwhelmed once again during the opening months with a run of five defeats in six games seeing them slump to 17th place with only 10 points from 10 games.
Under Moyes, Everton have previously fought back from such a position with lengthy unbeaten runs helping them eventually finish in a healthy league placing.
But as his team prepared to resume Premier League duty at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon, the Goodison manager has urged his players not to automatically assume such a turnaround will be forthcoming this campaign.
“At this point of the season, we’ve tended not to have the best amount of points,” said Moyes.
“We should be concerned where we are, and we shouldn’t automatically be thinking ‘yeah, Everton can go on a strong run again’. If we are, we’ve got to get it started, because maybe one of these years we won’t do that.
“I have to make sure we do. But we have to be aware that if we keep putting ourselves in a negative position at the start, then it’s not always that easy to keep turning it around again.
“Is it too easy just to say ‘but this is the way Everton do things’? Everyone is thinking that.
“I’m hoping that it does, but there’s no guarantee of that.”
Victory over Fulham last month gave Everton their only points in a run of six games that saw them also face Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and high-flying Newcastle United.
