Everton FC young talent leaves David Moyes excited over rich future

Marouane Fellaini

THE EVERTON FC media briefing ahead of this afternoon’s visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers hadn’t even begun when a beaming David Moyes was toasting victory.

Desert Cry, the horse the Everton FC manager co-owns, romped to victory in the 12.50 at Haydock yesterday.

But it’s the thought of turning some of Everton’s latest exciting batch of youngsters into thoroughbreds that offers greater reason to smile for the Scot.

From the England emergence of Jack Rodwell to the new five-year deal penned by Marouane Fellaini, this has been a good week for Moyes’s fledgling midfield partnership.

With Seamus Coleman already established and Ross Barkley making his first-team breakthrough this season, the Everton manager is blessed with young and hungry talent across the middle of the park.

And combined with the more seasoned campaigners, Moyes believes he has the genesis of the perhaps the next Goodison team.

“We've got a good bedrock of decent players who are at a good age, and these could be the next group to go forward,” he says.

“We've got Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines playing for England, Jack Rodwell coming into it, and Ross Barkley will undoubtedly in the future go on and be an England player.

“Then there's Marouane Fellaini – every time we go and watch his international games we come away saying he's been terrific.

“You need good senior players which we have got and the right balance.

“Jack has come through quite quickly, Ross we hope we'll bring on and Marouane who is developing quite nicely. They're really good players in the Premier League. They're a good group to have.”

Moyes adds: “Is this the most exciting gathering of young players? I think I've got a small number who I can build a really good base at Everton.

“I'm putting them in and they'll make mistakes in Everton's games which could be costly.

“I've seen that with Ross a couple of times. Ross just needs to learn a little bit more before he's ready, and understand a wee bit more what it's all about before I look to use him more regularly.”
