Apostolos Vellios 300
DAVID MOYES is urging Apostolos Vellios to become Everton FC’s penalty area prowler.
Vellios has proven a useful impact substitute for Everton FC this season, netting three times from the bench against Wigan Athletic, Chelsea and Bolton Wanderers.
The 19-year-old’s progress following his January move from Iraklis is such that he has been rewarded with two Premier League starts, the most recent of which came in Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat to Stoke City.
And Moyes is urging the Greece under-21 international can have an even greater influence by imposing himself further inside the opposing box.
“He can score when he gets a chance in the box,” said the Goodison manager. “He is improving all the time.
“I see him in training and there are times I think he is slacking and he needs to work a bit harder, do better and protect the ball a bit better.
“We are working with him all the time and I hope we can continue to improve him. I think if you look at most of the goals that are scored they are either in the six-yard box or penalty area, there are a few scored from outside the box but if you want to be a centre forward then you have to accept the fact that you need to get in the middle of the box to get the goals.
