Arsenal striker Thierry Henry (200)
SOME people may have laughed at David Moyes offering Thierry Henry an invitation to play for Everton FC – but to me it makes perfect sense.
Moyes took Landon Donovan from the MLS to Everton FC a couple of years ago, and Henry was playing in that same league until a month ago.
Everton FC are lacking experience up front. Henry might not be able to run around a lot anymore, but he still has a football brain and Moyes has the players who can run around for him. Plus, he would still need marking.
I bet there are a few other Premier League managers who have already asked Henry if he wants to come back to England for a couple of months.
Everton FC cannot rely on Louis Saha anymore, certainly not for a run of games. He has one of those bodies that prevents him from playing many consecutive games.
Michael Owen is the same, Jonathan Woodgate also. All three are top, top players when fit, but their physique and frame tells us that isn’t as often as required.
Everton’s defeat at Arsenal was nothing new. It’s the same old, same old every single week now; a decent performance, but undermined by the lack of a striker.
Moyes will be scouring the market for loan deals in January, but it isn’t really a time when clubs want to sell players. In any case, paying £2million for someone who may be out of contract in the summer makes no financial sense to Everton right now.
