David Moyes 300
DAVID MOYES has reiterated his desire to add a striker to his Everton FC squad in January, but says his side need to start converting their chances if they are to climb the Premier League table.
Wednesday night’s 1-0 win over Swansea City, courtesy of a second-half Leon Osman header, was just Everton FC's third home league triumph all season.
It lifted them into 11th place heading into Christmas, but their forward issues remain clear for all to see. Everton FC have scored just 18 goals in their 16 league games, with only Swansea and Wigan managing fewer.
Everton FC have already secured the signing of American forward Landon Donovan (pictured below) on a short-term loan deal. The American will arrive from MLS side LA Galaxy later this month, and will be available until the end of February.
Moyes is also keen to sign Cliftonville’s Rory Donnelly, though revealed there has been no progress on a proposed £100,000 deal for the 19-year-old Irish hitman.
Nonetheless, he admits the capture of another centre-forward would do plenty to raise spirits at Goodison Park heading into the New Year, and admits his side have lacked a ruthless edge in front of goal of late.
“I am trying to bring in a centre-forward,” Moyes said. “That would certainly lift the mood, because we know we are a little bit short in that area. If we could do that, then it would help us, if not then we will keep going.
“Winning makes a big difference (to the mood) though. If you win football matches, it covers up a multitude of sins, it always has done. What we have not done this season is win enough football games.
“But that's down to myself and the players. It is not down to people who are not here, they are not important at the moment. The people who are here are the ones who are important.”
