James McFadden
DAVID MOYES believes Everton can benefit from a more mature James McFadden during the second half of the season.
McFadden made his first appearance in almost two months with a late substitute outing in the 1-1 Premier League draw at Sunderland on Boxing Day.
Moyes had moved to re-sign the 28-year-old in October after the Scotland international was released by Birmingham City in the summer following a serious knee injury.
And the Goodison manager is hopeful McFadden’s experience can bolster his attacking options in the New Year.
“It has been a bit hard to gauge his form, because until we see him in a full game we won't really know,” said Moyes. “His style has changed, I think, from when he was last here.
“He is more mature in his play, more thoughtful, there is a little less of the 'Roy of the Rovers' about him now.
“He keeps the ball better and is more concise in his passing and general play.”
Despite McFadden’s return to fitness and the imminent arrival of Landon Donovan on another short-term loan, Moyes will target further striking reinforcements during next month’s transfer window.
“I still see Faddy playing off the front, as a front man, or perhaps wide if we need him to,” said the Everton manager.
“We would probably need more of an out-and-out striker (in January). We brought Faddy to help us out in terms of numbers.
