MAROUANE FELLAINI has let everyone down – but Everton will not want to sell him in January.

Following the incidents at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, newspapers were full of suggestions that the Belgium would now be sold.

I don’t see it.

Everton are not going to put Fellaini, their top scorer and such an important player to them, on the market because of one, mad moment of ill-discipline.

Everybody makes mistakes and you have to believe his apology after the game was a genuine one.

He let his teammates, the supporters, the manager and the coaching staff down – but realises this now.

You know what you are going to get when you go to Stoke City, the holding and physicality is to be expected but that does not give you reason to react.

What Fellaini did was wrong and there is no way anyone could try and defend the indefensible.

And on that, David Moyes and the club have handled the situation particularly well and they have accepted his three match ban.

Strangely, the whole affair may actually work in their favour – and that may sound a little odd given he will miss important games against West Ham United, Wigan Athletic and Chelsea.

This is because teams who have been considering testing the resolve of Everton in the transfer window may now think twice after what they have just seen.

The incidents overshadowed a match in which Everton had a fantastic chance to make it 2-0 and, in all likelihood, kill the game off.

Leon Osman should have scored and the miss, coupled with Stoke’s equaliser, only added to the overall sense of frustration after the game.

It wasn’t a great spectacle, it must be said, but the Potters have not lost at home for some time now so in the end a point was not a bad result for Everton.
