Fans hail shoot-out stars as Everton head for FA Cup Final

Everton fans celebrate

EVERTON fans were today celebrating their team’s momentous FA Cup semi-final win.

Thousands of fans travelled down the M6 and M1 to see the team dispatch Manchester United in a penalty shoot-out.

With Evertonians believed to have outnumbered Red Devils fans three to one, the Scouse crowd put on a huge display. Dozens of banners caught the attention of the TV cameras, amid a crowd that was a sea of blue and white.

Hundreds of fans draped themselves in Everton flags and many wore blue fluffy wigs in tribute to popular midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

Fan Jack Rowland, 16, from Neston, Wirral, was among those who travelled to the game by coach.

He said: "I’m so chuffed. I just can’t believe it. I thought Everton played so well and it was such an even game.

"The atmosphere was fantastic. Both sets of fans were mingling together before the match, and afterwards it was just the best feeling ever."

The Metropolitan Police confirmed fans’ reports that there was little trouble. A spokesman said: "It was a relatively peaceful game, considering there were 88,000 people there."

Liverpool’s civic leaders were among those who joined the convoys swapping the city for Wembley stadium.

Lib Dem council leader Warren Bradley, who travelled on one of the coaches, said: "What a day for the city. It was absolutely brilliant. It was just so enjoyable to see how many fans were there.

"Evertonians have waited such a long time for this.

"I’ve been an Everton supporter my whole life, so I was so nervous when it went to penalties. But it’s a fantastic way for us to have won that game. It really was our day."
