Ferguson can’t take gloss off Everton glory
EVERTON’S achievements in this season’s FA Cup is what the competition is all about. In fact, they have single-handedly restored some of its magic.
The role of the underdog has been played to perfection – they have been lower in the Premier League table then three of the sides they have knocked out on their way to the final and fully deserve their place in it.
And the euphoria of the supporters and what it means to them ensures that nothing can take the gloss off their semi-final victory.
Not the fact that Manchester United perhaps should have had a penalty during normal time (Tim Howard would probably have saved it anyway).
Not the fact that they miss out on the magic of getting to Wembley because they have already been there once.
And certainly not the antics of Sir Alex Ferguson.
This is the man who was so offended by Rafael Benitez calling them a small club that he decided to send out a team that wasn’t even his second string on Sunday.
