Everton's Kirkby stadium inquiry hears tale of two developers

EFC Stadium, design, Kirkby

She said Mr Weiss had no incentive to develop. “He actually had no exposure to costs or risk within his investment and therefore received a steady income.”

She added that, since Tesco’s reported £60m buy-up of land in Kirkby, there was no barrier to Knowsley pressing on with a scheme, without a stadium, and achieving the hoped-for regeneration.

St Modwen is now in a partnership with West Lancashire District Council to build a new town centre and housing in Skelmersdale.

But Mrs Taylor said if Destination Kirkby went ahead her firm would have to “terminate” the agreement because the Skelmersdale proposal would not be able to compete with Tesco’s Kirkby scheme because her scheme included necessary “compromise”.
