Colin Fitzpatrick, of KEIOC, added: “This proposal has to accommodate a restriction in train capacity, due to the physical limitations of Kirkby railway station and its track, with the capability of an ad hoc bus station, that during the post-match period will become Britain’s busiest bus station by a margin of 50%, requiring a bus departure every 14.5 seconds for an hour. We would suggest that the potential success of this plan would appear unrealistic at best.”
Mr Fitzpatrick concluded: “All other considerations and/or benefits considered relevant are outweighed by the detrimental impact on Walton and Liverpool and the conflicts with development planning policy.”
Peter Fisher, of the Kirkby Lib-Dem group, said the plans broke guidance on Conservation Areas such as the one protecting St Chads Church.
Tom Norman, of KTA, said the planned superstore jeopardised the town’s bonhomie.
Opposing councils will present their closing statements tomorrow.
