Knowsley Council looks to new plan for Kirkby following Everton FC stadium rejection

THE PLAN to build an Everton stadium and Tesco superstore in Kirkby has now been formally discontinued.

The club, the supermarket and Knowsley Council had six weeks to appeal against the Government’s decision to reject the Destination Kirkby scheme – but allowed the deadline to expire without lodging a challenge.

Everton came out almost immediately after the decision in November and said it was moving on and is currently continuing its search for a new home.

Knowsley Council said it was now working with Tesco on a new plan for Kirkby.

And Kirkby Residents Action Group (KRAG) urged the council to involve the local community in the plans from the beginning.

John Fleming, of KRAG, said: “Before they draw up plans, let’s talk.

“We know it will bring jobs, but we don’t want them dictating everything.”
