Liverpool FC will travel to Old Trafford in third round of Carling Cup
Luis Suarez is in line to make a sensational return for Liverpool at Manchester United after the bitter North West rivals were drawn together in the Capital One Cup.
Brendan Rodgers’ side will travel to the Premier League champions in the third round having seen off Notts County on Tuesday night.
The game is scheduled to be the first for which Suarez is available after serving his 10-game ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in April.
Coincidentally, when Suarez returned from his eight-game ban following his race row with Patrice Evra, his first start was at United in February 2012.
The Uruguayan infamously failed to shake the hand of the United defender before the game, prompting further controversy.
Liverpool have faced United on four previous occasions in the competition, the most recent coming in 2003 when they won 2-0 in Cardiff to lift the trophy.
However, they were beaten 3-1 in their only clash at Old Trafford back in October 1990.
Everton, meanwhile, will travel to Fulham having overcome League One side Stevenage 2-1 after extra time on Wednesday night.
The Premier League duo have never previously met in the League Cup.
The ties will take place on Tuesday, September 24 or Wednesday, September 25.
