Agent confirms Catalan giants have been in contact
Liverpool FC have rebuffed an attempt from Barcelona to prise Daniel Agger away from Anfield.
Agger’s agent yesterday revealed the club had turned down a bid from the Catalans for the Denmark international.
Barcelona are in the market for a new centre-back and have targeted the 28-year-old having Chelsea dismiss an offer for David Luiz.
Agger, who signed a new long-term contract last year, was this week praised for his loyalty by Brendan Rodgers having been named Liverpool’s new vice-captain in succession to the retired Jamie Carragher.
And the player’s agent, Per Steffensen, said: “We are aware that Barcelona have made an offer for Daniel that Liverpool have rejected.
“Daniel has a contract with Liverpool for the next three years and it would be up to the clubs to agree a fee for his transfer in order for that to change.”
It emerged earlier this month that Steffensen was contacted by an agent claiming to represent the Spanish champions, rather than by Barcelona themselves.
