Make sure you are a fashion winner in the Aintree style stakes

The stakes are high, but Emma Pinch makes sure you don’t have to hedge your bets when it comes to fashion

THE race for the best-dressed Grand National goer is on. Front-runners will have been planning their outfits for weeks, with one eye on featuring in the photo-finish at the Style Awards 2009.

Dress up with bright jewel colours, or go for safer navy or black, but don’t skimp on classy accessories.

Left: Red and white prom dress, £89, by John Lewis; white  clutch, Lollipops; white patent shoes, £75, by Bertie; black  fascinator, £29, by John Lewis. Right: Coral dress, £165, by  Jesiree; nude stacked  shoes, by Carvela,  £110; sunglasses, £15,  by John Lewis

As you get older, it’s worth remembering less is often more. Our selection of dresses from Liverpool One’s John Lewis show-cases subtler styles than the all-out ruffle and mini-skirt confections younger race-goers can get away with.
