Aintree Grand National: Going is good, temperature-wise, for the rest of the weekend

RACEGOERS can bring their sunglasses to the Grand National meeting this year and breathe a sigh of relief – because weather experts promise three days of warm weather.

Yesterday was a scorcher, with an early mist making way for glorious sunshine.

Met Office forecaster Helen Chivers said: “Today might be slightly more cloudy with a bit more of a breeze than we had yesterday, but it should still get up to about 13 or 14C.

“A slightly colder weather front is due to arrive from the West tonight, but it doesn’t look like it will bring too much rain with it – just a couple of millimetres – and that should all be clear by the end of tomorrow morning.”

Temperatures for tomorrow’s big race are expected to reach 12C.

Aintree’s groundsmen will work late into the night to ensure the world-famous racecourse is in the best possible condition.

Clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch said: “I’m pleased with the condition of the course.

“I would expect good ground for the big race.”
