Lee and King miss Festival

JOCKEY Graham Lee and former Gold Cup winner Kicking King were the high-profile casualties set to miss next week’s Cheltenham Festival.

Everton fan Lee, who was leading jockey at the Festival in 2005, has been out with a fractured jaw following a fall at Huntingdon in early February, and will not be fit in time for next week’s four-day showpiece meeting.

His agent Richard Hale confirmed: “He’s fine really but he won’t be back for Cheltenham. He won’t be allowed to ride there and that’s just the way it is. He’s consulted with Dr (Michael) Turner (the British Horseracing Authority’s medical adviser) and is hoping to be back for Easter Saturday. That’s the earliest he’s likely to be back but no firm dates have been set as yet.”

Meanwhile Kicking King, winner of the 2005 Gold Cup, has also been ruled out of the blue riband event.
