MARAAHEL bids for a record fourth victory in a row in the Grant Thornton Huxley Stakes on day two of Chester’s May meeting.
If successful the Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned seven-year-old would top the £1million in prize-money earned during his career. Victory would add £34,062 to his £990,935 earnings from eight victories in 30 starts, while second place and the £12,912 prize would also see him break through the £1m barrier. But connections feel that this afternoon’s contest could be his toughest to win since he first scored in the 1m2½f Group Three contest in 2005.
Angus Gold, Sheikh Hamdan’s racing manager, said: “He’s been a fabulous servant. He’s done a great job and won this race three times, but I think he’ll have his work cut out tomorrow with Multidi-mensional in there.
“He’s in good form and obviously it would be great to see him do it again. He’s £10,000 short of £1million in prize-money and it would be lovely to think he could get up to that.
“It would be pretty remarkable.”
Henry Cecil’s Multidimensional looks to be the biggest threat to Maraahel’s chances.
