Lashes crowns double for Bolger

FOLLOWING on from their Vodafone Derby success trainer Jim Bolger and jockey Kevin Manning scored a big-race double at Royal Ascot as Lush Lashes completed the job with victory in the Group One Coronation Stakes.

Hot favourite Cuis Ghaire had won the opener, the Albany Stakes, before the Galileo filly made the step back to a mile a winning one.

While Bolger’s New Approach landed the Derby, stable-mate Lush Lashes had disappointed in the other Epsom Classic, when fifth in the Oaks.

But stepping back to a mile, a trip at which she finished sixth in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket Lush Lashes (5-1), scored an excellent three-and-a-quarter-length victory over John Gosden’s Infallible.

Bolger, who also won the race with Flame Of Tara in 1983, said: “I am not cocky enough to say I was expecting this but she had shown enough pace to suggest she would cope with a mile.

“Next time it will probably be a mile and a half and she will go for the Irish Oaks at the Curragh.”
