O’Brien adds more Group One glory

AIDAN O’BRIEN’S stunning season shows no sign of stopping as he grabbed a 12th Group One of 2008 as Mount Nelson took the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.

Under Johnny Murtagh the 7-2 chance got up late on to deny Henry Cecil’s Phoenix Tower by a short head.

It was the first time Mount Nelson had won a Group One due to injury since winning the Criterium International as a juvenile in 2006.

O’Brien said: “He is a very good horse this fellow. He had a few little problems at three and tore off a shoe at the start of the spring last year and took half of his foot with it.

“The whole team did a great job to get him back and they need to take all the credit. He is an amazing horse to come back and we didn’t think he would make it. He was a Group One winner at two and has run well this season. He has been progressing all of the time and you will see more improvement from him.”
