AIDAN O’BRIEN and Johnny Murtagh have already landed on big success on Town Moor with Honolulu’s comfortable victory in the National Express Doncaster Cup yesterday.
Now the all-conquering trainer-jockey combination will bid for Classic glory when Irish Derby hero Frozen Fire, the current market leader, bids to land the Ladbrokes St Leger this afternoon.
But the Ballydoyle team got the perfect boost ahead of their twin Leger assault on both sides of the Irish seas when 15-8 favourite Honolulu took the two-mile Group Two contest yesterday.
The Queen Alexandra Stakes winner won by four lengths from Balkan Knight, who pipped the long-time leader Royal and Regal for second by half a length.
Murtagh said: “He’s a lovely horse and won well. He’s been working well, has improved and Aidan has been delighted with him.”
