ADRIAN NICHOLLS is no hurry to decide if he rides either Tajneed or Valery Borzov in Saturday’s John Smith’s Ayr Gold Cup.
Both horses are trainer by his father Dandy, who won the valuable Scottish sprint four times since 2000.
Nicholls has 11 of the 142 entries – of which a maximum 27 will go to post. Tajneed and Valery Borzov, first and second in the Great St Wilfrid Stakes last month, appear to be two of his main hopes.
Nicholls junior was on board Tajneed, as he just held the late charge of his stable-mate at Ripon but feels he has another tough choice to make.
He said: “I just want to see what happens with the ground and the draw before I decide. The ground is described as heavy at the moment and while Valery Borzov is quite versatile, Tajneed needs that ground.
“I want to see where the pace is so I have something to fire at, so there are a few things to consider.”
Valery Borzov is 11-1 favourite with bet365 with Tajneed 16-1 with Boylesports, but Nicholls knows his father’s team will all have a chance.
He added: “Everyone is going on about these two horses, but something down the bottom of the old man’s could come out and win as he has such a good record in the race. Manzila is a big price, but I think she could give them all something to worry about.”
TODAY’S NAP: Balakiref (4pm Haydock).
