AS jump racing fixtures continue to fall victim to freezing conditions, officials at Sandown are hopeful they will be able to stage tomorrow’s meeting which features the Blue Square Tolworth Hurdle.
The Esher track will hold a precautionary inspection at 8am tomorrow morning after an initial look at noon yesterday found that 95% of the track race-able.
The course will be covered tonight with more frost forecast.
Clerk of the course Andrew Cooper said: “We hope by close of play tomorrow to have the track covered up. That remains the plan and is our expectation. There is a fair bit of work to do tomorrow to get everything to us and down, but we have done it once before for the February meeting last year.
“Fingers crossed it will go okay and will give us a good deal of protection for Friday night. We’ve been a degree or so better today than we thought at up to about four degrees. Tomorrow has been suggested as a four or five degree day but with a cold night to follow.
“It has improved all day today and we’ll take stock of things in the morning. We could do with plus temperatures again to sort out the last remaining bits of the track.”
Ayr’s two-day meeting today and tomorrow has already fallen victim to the weather, while tomorrow’s fixture at Wincanton is subject to an inspection at 8am this morning.
Today’s meeting at Folkestone will also have to pass a precautionary inspection at 7.30am but officials are optimistic.
