Johnson back on Mighty Man

RICHARD JOHNSON will be reunited with Mighty Man in his bid for a fourth success at Aintree in the John Smith’s Liverpool Hurdle – the opening race of the three-day meeting tomorrow.

Henry Daly’s nine-year-old was fifth under Sam Thomas on his comeback run following injury in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at Cheltenham last month.

But Johnson, who partnered Mighty Man to all his wins at Aintree including his successes in the Grade Two contest, said: “I am going to ride Mighty Man as the owners of Fair Along are keen for Rhys Flint to be on board as he won two hurdle races on him earlier in the season.

“Mighty Man showed he was in good heart at Cheltenham and it was a very good run for his first start in nearly two years.

“I schooled him this morning (Tuesday) and he was in very good form and it is nice to get back on him at Aintree which he really loves.

“He has been a little superstar around the track and it is hard to know why – the flat track just seems to suit him that bit better than Cheltenham.

“His form is eight to 10 pounds better there than at Cheltenham and with that in mind he goes there with a very good chance.”
