Get your finger on the pulse for the Topham Chase

VOY POR USTEDES can join the list of dual winners of the John Smith’s Melling Chase (3.10pm) at Aintree this afternoon.

Chasing stars like Viking Flagship, Direct Route, Native Upmanship and Moscow Flyer all landed back-to-back successes and Voy Por Ustedes can follow their example.

Alan King’s eight-year-old is one of the most consistent performers in training, having rarely finished out of the first four in his career. This 2m4f is probably his ideal track and despite a lacklustre jumping display he still finished second to Imperial Commander in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham last time.

Philip Hobbs’ MASSINI’S MAGUIRE can land the Matalan.co.uk Mildmay Novices’ Chase (2.35pm).

The eight-year-old ran a fine race to finish third to Cooldine in the RSA Chase at Cheltenham last time and he can build on that to land a deserved success.

The big race over the National fences, the John Smith’s Topham Chase (3.45pm), is always a great spectacle and this afternoon should be no different.

It looks as competitive as ever, but Tom Taaffe’s FINGER ON THE PULSE should be able to go close to victory.

Alan King’s Karabak could go one better than at Cheltenham in the Citroen C5 Sefton Novices’ Hurdle (4.20pm) but LATANIER, owned by Liverpool-born Frank Mahon, is an interesting each-way player.

In the final race, the John Smith’s Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race (5.30pm) trainer King and stable jockey Robert Thornton can complete an impressive double on the day with POLLY POTTER.

Others with chances include Howard Johnson’s RED MALONEY in the opening race of day two, which is the Highstreetvoucher.com Top Novices’ Hurdle (2pm) and the Paul Nicholls-trained INCHIDALY ROCK in the totepool Handicap Hurdle (4.55pm).
