Connections expect Beheshtam to bid for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp

THE Aga Khan’s Beheshtam is expected to line up in this Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The three-year-old finished well to go down by just half a length to Andre Fabre’s Cavalryman in the Prix Niel last time out.

Trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre has not yet confirmed that Beheshtam, who is a best-priced 28-1 with Sportingbet, will definitely line up in the Longchamp showpiece.

But the owner’s French stud manager Georges Rimaud said: “The decision has not yet been made as to whether he will run and it won’t be made until later this week.

“I can’t say anything is 100% decided although for the moment there is no reason not to run.”

Meanwhile hot favourite Sea The Stars should have ideal conditions for his Arc bid if the weather forecast is correct. It is expected that there will be a generally dry week in Paris ahead of Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

John Oxx’s outstanding colt, who has won five major Group Ones in a row this season, will not be risked if the ground was too soft.

But it appears that conditions should be fine.

Paul Mott, a forecaster with Meteogroup, said: “It’s looking fine and warm for the majority of the week with good long spells of sunshine and temperatures of up to about 21 or 22 degrees centigrade. There will just be a bit of mist and fog in the mornings.

“There is a cold front coming in at the weekend, which could bring some rain, but there is a little uncertainty as to when that will arrive.

“It may be Saturday night or Sunday morning, when temperatures will drop to about 17 degrees.”

Sea The Stars is currently a best-priced 5-6 with Boylesports to win a sixth Group One of the campaign.
