KIEREN FALLON thinks Coordinated Cut is the horse to beat in Saturday’s Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.
Fallon rode Peter Chapple-Hyam’s colt on his winning debut over course and distance last month and the Irishman partnered him in a work-out.
Coordinated Cut was among the 22 entries for the Group One contest and he is currently a 7-1 chance with Coral behind 9-4 favourite, the Aidan O’Brien-trained Sir Nicholas Abbey.
But Fallon said yesterday: “He won very well at the Leger meeting. I rode him the other day and he went well. He must have a good chance.”
The one-mile contest is usually one of the most informative trials for the following year’s Classics with Derby winners Authorized, Motivater and High Chaparral as well as St Leger hero Brian Boru on the roll of honour in the past decade.
O’Brien trained the last two and in St Nicholas Abbey, one of six entries from the Ballydoyle, is the favourite for next year’s Derby at a best-priced 10-1 with Betfred.
The unbeaten Montjeu colt is the star attraction following his win in the Beresford Stakes, a race also won by Sea The Stars last season.
