Tom George’s Nacarat set for the Betfair Chase at Haydock

NACARAT will look to bounce back to form in the Betfair Chase at Haydock a fortnight tomorrow following his seasonal reappearance at Exeter on Tuesday.

Last year’s Racing Post Chase winner failed to trouble the principals when eighth to Planet Of Sound in the William Hill Gold Cup earlier in the week.

Trainer Tom George is now eyeing Haydock’s three-mile Grade One chase on November 21, for the eight-year-old.

Nacarat will face dual Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Kauto Star at Haydock and George said: “Nacarat has come out of his race well. He ran a similar race at Exeter on his reappearance last season and will be following the same programme, starting with 10 days of swimming and spa treatment on Thursday. His next engagement is the Betfair Chase at Haydock, followed by the King George.”

Meanwhile, at Haydock yesterday John Smith’s Grand National-winning duo Liam Treadwell and Venetia Williams teamed up to win on Merseyside again as Never So Blue took the Betdaq The Betting Exchange Handicap Chase.

The trainer and jockey combination landed the Aintree showpiece with shock 100-1 winner Mon Mome in April.

Yesterday Never So Blue was only 7-1 this time, but the grey could turn into a usual staying chaser after his 10-length victory over Coe.

Williams said: “The rain came for us. It was a nice performance and it is great because his owners (The Moody Blues syndicate) are all local

“We will look for races in which stamina is at a premium over extreme distances.”
